Barents-fashion

Designers participating in Nils Gaups film "Barents Fashion Week" released today, will hold a fashionshow tonight at Thon Hotel, showing clothes from the Barents region.
Čorvoš Award tonight

The Sami Filmfestival will award a Saami film tonight at Thon Hotel i Kautokeino. The seven nominees are competing for an award of 10.000 NOK, end an artwork form Juhls Silver Gallery made of silver and reindeerhorn worth 10.000 NOK.

The documentary, “Min arbeeatnan luohti” is screened Wednesday 5pm at thon varri.

Opening party with Inga Juuso

Today after the last screening Sami film festival throws a big opening party at Thon Varri 1115 pm. The famous sami joiker Inga Juuso will hold a concert together with Steinar Raknes. They will play a selection from their latest albmun Skaidi.
Tickets can be purchased at the festival office for 50 NOK.
A wolf opens the Sami film festival

This years opening film at the sami film festival is the swedish film Varg. This film has recieved good reviews in sweden with famous swedish actor Peter Stormare in the lead role.
The film tells the story about Klemes and his nephew Nejla that run a small herd of reindeer in the wild, majestic landscape on the border between Norway and Sweeden. Klemens is a loner, struggling to maintain a traditional way of life and Nejla´s ambition is to be able to live like his uncle. But his mother work against it. Their fragile world is shaken when the herd is attacked. In desperation they take the law into their own hands. What are the consequences and who will take the blame?
The films is screened today (06.04) at ice cinema.
Reindeer police screening moved

The screening of the documentary Reindeepolice is moved to the Cultural house. It will be screened at 1800. Tickets can be purchased at the festival office at Thon hotel, or at the Cultural house.

Win an Easter festival card!

This year Sami film festival gives the audience an opportunity to win a festival card to both the film and music festival in Kautokeino to a value of 1100 NOK.
Everyone who comes with a snowmobile to the drive-in at the ice cinema has a chance to win a festival card to both the film and music festival. Every snowmobile that enters the drive-in at the ice cinema will be given a ticket and a chance to win. Every night before the last screening at the ice cinema the Sami film festival will announce who is the lucky winner of a festival card.
Welcome to the worlds only snowmobile drive-in.
Nomadic stories: A road movie from the melting Arctic

The documentary “victims of the new weather” will be shown today at the ice cinema. This is a unique documentary series that takes viewers on an adventure through the melting Arctic, a road movie where we meet the people who are the first victims in an increasingly warmer world. We see the true consequences of climate change when we meet Inuits on Greenland and in Alaska, aboriginal peoples in Canada and Nenets in Russia. The host is Samuel Idivuoma.
Sami film festival is screening two episodes of this series. The episodes are about sami and nenets reindeer herders. The screening is today (01.04) at the ice cinema 2100. The tickets are 50 NOK and everybody is welcome.
Nomadic stories: The Kautokeino rebellion

The Kautokeino rebellion will be shown at the ice cinema today 31.03 at 2100. This screening is a part of the nomadic stories filmprogramme for 4. World reindeer herders congress in Guovdageaidnu. Sami filmfestival invites everybody to come and the tickets are 50NOK. You are also welcome to use the snowmobile drive-in feature.
Kautokeino rebellion tells a true story about a native tribe in Kautokeino that refuses to pay their unjust debt to a prosperous and ruhtless liqour dealer. This leads to one of the most dramatic episodes in northern scandinavian history.
The film is directed by Nils Gaup and has won several prizes, both international and in norway.

Cooperation with Thon Hotell Kautokeino

Sami Film Festival and Thon Hotell Kautokeino will cooperate about this years festival. The snow-mobile drive-in ice-cinema will be built outside the hotel.
- It is important for us that the conditions around the ice-cinema are good, because that will make it easier to arrange the festival. We are very satisfied with the fact that the ice-cinema is going to be loacated outside the hotel, it is in the center of Guovdageaidnu and there is a fantastic view there, says the festivaldirector Sara Beate Eira.
- This is very good for the hotel and for the poeple in Guovdageaidnu. We wish to welvome everybody to the hotel to enjoy films. The audience has also the possibility to visit our restaurant and buy a meal between the films, says the hotelmanager of Thon Hotell Kautokeino, Stina Petersson Kiuru.
This year’s festival office is located at Thon hotel. Opening hours are everyday from 1000 to 2300. Tickets for films screened at Thon varri and the Ice cinema can be purchased here. For the films screened at the cultural house tickets can be bought there.
At the festival office you will get all information you need about the films and if there are any changes in the program. Also the official film festival buff can be purchased at the office.
